Use the horizontal ruler line as shown in this screenshot to create the hanging indent. Release, and your first line will return to its original place. Drag it back to the left-the setting will read 0.0 inches. On the ruler, click on the horizontal blue bar immediately above the arrow we just used. You’ll have to manually return it to its original position left-aligned in the paragraph. Of course, a true hanging indent doesn’t include the first line. Notice that all of your text shifted over to your desired setting, in our case, 0.5 inches.
Drag the blue line on the ruler setting to draw the indent distance in. Typically, hanging indents are 0.5 inches over, but you can make them as wide as you want. Now, click and drag the blue arrow over to the position where you want your hanging indent to be. With your text box selected, come up to the Ruler.
